Advantages of garlands
The garland idlers have numerous significant advantages compared to the idlers with rigid frames. The most important advantages of garlands result from their properties:
Characteristics of garland idlers | The resulting advantages |
Possibility of quick and uncomplicated lowering of individual garlands during operation (see quick lowering eyes). This is necessary e.g. if a defect is detected on one of the rollers of the garland (e.g. in the case of hot rollers). |
|
Adaptive geometry of the garland idlers |
|
No need to lift the belt to replace the conveyor rollers |
|
Usually no idler frames (steel frames to hold the conveyor rollers) necessary, simpler geometry of conveyor steel structures |
|
However, there are of course also certain disadvantages respectively limits of the meaningful application of garland idlers.
For example, if the conveyor is inclined (e.g. with vertical curves), the garlands can lead to increased running resistance and wear. For this reason, the garlands should not be installed in such sections of the belt conveyor, respectively not without appropriate countermeasures.
The use of garland idlers is also less worthwhile for smaller belt widths: additional tools would be required to change the garlands, while the insert rollers are still relatively manageable in size and weight and can therefore usually be changed with relatively little effort.
